Climate Action Planning is a 2-day programme designed for SME business owners and managers who wish to understand the environment impact of their business and why it matters, the steps that they can take to reduce their carbon emissions, how they can set a Net Zero target for their business and how to leverage this for business advantage.

What you will learn

This programme will provide you with the tools, understanding and techniques to:

  • Understand why climate change is important for the future of the planet and your business.
  • Equip you to talk about sustainability meaningfully and to understand how you can utilise it to drive growth in your business.
  • Evaluate your company to understand where it’s carbon footprint comes from.
  • Understand tools, techniques and technologies that you can draw on to reduce your business’ future carbon emissions.
  • Develop a carbon reduction plan and set a target for when your business will achieve Net Zero.

During the programme you will undertake a carbon audit of your business with the assistance of subject matter experts and utilise this to develop a carbon reduction plan for your business to set a Net Zero target for your business. After the programme you can then submit these plans for review by a subject matter expert.

Day one

The first day is split into four sessions:

1. Introduction to Sustainability and Net Zero - Why should you care?

An overview of the current thinking in climate change and how it will affect your business going forward.

2. Introduction to Sustainability and Net Zero – The basics!

An overview of emissions, sustainability and the net zero issue at a high to provide context for the remainder of the course.

3. Introduction to Track Zero

Introduction from the team at TrackZero (trackzero.eco) to their all-in-one collaborative carbon management platform designed to support businesses in reducing their carbon footprint and offered as part of this course free for 12 months.

4. SME Full Value Chain Carbon Assessment

Masterclass covering all of your emissions and outlining the detail behind them, enabling you to make sense of them, understand the science behind them and ensure that you can calculate all relevant emissions that result from your business and the use of your products and service.

Day 2

The second day is divided into three sessions:

1. Decarbonisation Strategy

Outlining examples of how you can reduce your greenhouse gas emissions in practical and cost-effective ways.

2. Strategy - Sustainability, the case for competitive advantage not increased costs

Determining how you are going to build a competitive advantage based on sustainability, focusing on how you monitor the impact of your efforts and communicate it to existing and target customers to the maximum effect strategically.

3. Circular Business Models: Theory and practise

Reviewing or re-examining the way in which various businesses operate to both tackle global challenges and at the same time create sustainable competitive advantage or develop new ways to reach new customers in new ways.

TrackZero is a collaborative platform designed to simplify sustainability for businesses seeking to track, reduce, and report their carbon emissions. Climate Action Planning delegates get a year’s subscription to TrackZero as part of the programme.

Who should attend

This programme is designed specifically for SMEs and we encourage applications from businesses with up to 250 staff.

Those attending should be owners or senior managers with the ability to put in place and lead on your business’ carbon reduction plans.
